Yesterday my mom posted a picture on Facebook of my 5 year old brother Sam wearing a pair of shoes he picked out for his first day of preschool.
She explained to him in the store that they were really made for girls. Sam then told her that he didn’t care and that “ninjas can wear pink shoes too.”
Sam went to preschool and got several compliments on his new shoes. Not one kid said anything negative toward him about it.
However, my mom received about 20 comments on the photo from various family members saying how “wrong” it is and how “things like this will affect him socially” and, put most eloquently by my great aunt, “that shit will turn him gay.”
My mom then deleted the photo and told Sam that he can wear whatever he wants to preschool, that it’s his decision. If he wants to wear pink shoes, he can wear pink shoes.
Sam then explained to her that he didn’t like them because they were pink, he liked them because they were “made out of zebras” and zebras are his favorite animal :)
Zebras are my favourite animals too.

Well, I work in a vet clinic so euthanasia is something I see very often. It’s interesting how the euthanasia of people is far more controversial than the euthanasia of animals. I mean, to me, it would seem that we “play God” far more with the euthanasia of animals than people because the animal has no choice in the matter. Many times perfectly healthy animals are euthanized simply because they aren’t wanted. At least if a perfectly health person wanted to be euthanized it would be their choice to do so.
I remember discussing this in philosophy and basically for me it comes down to it’s your choice to live or die, no matter what your circumstances are. You can be perfectly healthy but if you don’t want to live then who am I to say that you should go against your will? But this brought up the issue of being in a state of mind where you are aware enough to make that decision. If you are told you have a terminal illness are you still in a state where you can make that decision? Or are you in a state of shock and your mind is clouded by thoughts of the end? Or what if the primary care giver of someone who was differently abled wanted to euthanize that person? Do they have the right to call the shots of life and death? Or what if we switch that around, and if the individual wants to die but the caregiver does not want them to?
Basically, I support the premise of euthanasia and assisted suicide (and from what I read about mercy killings which was just a synonym for euthanasia… if that’s not correct, let me know!). We all have should be able to control our lives, including when they end. But when you dig deeper there are grey areas and areas where this could be abused (what if people’s signatures were forged onto euthanasia papers?).
I hope that was a decent answer, even though I don’t have a real conclusive answer. But it’s an interesting question, I think I might go find out Canada’s laws on this topic since I have no clue what they are! :)

Breakfast - everything bagel with becel vegan margarine
Lunch - homefries, hashbrowns, toast, sometimes eggs or something protien-y/OR veggie meat, noodles, carrots
Dinner - veggie meat, potatoes/pasta/rice, and vegetable.
Snack - crackers, fruit2go bars, oreos (depending on where you live these may or may not be vegan), dry cereal (typically something sweet like froot loops or capt’n crunch.
If I eat out (teeehee) - veggie burger, thai food, veggie sub, pasta.
Yup, B12 and iron are very important to look out for if you don’t eat meat!
(I am against tempeh because the only time I ever tried to make it I got a huuuuuge burn across my hand! haha)
Oh, and hummus! I don’t eat a lot of it, but it’s quite a health dip/spread!
oh goodness, I do not eat well. I eat a lot of soy based meat alternatives - like “veggie” meats. I also eat a lot of breakfast foods like potatoes (hashbrowns, homefries, potato wedges) and beans. I use almond milk and olive oil when I cook or bake. I put garlic on most things (sandwiches, breaded veggie meats, burgers, anything really) and I’ve noticed that since I’ve been doing that I haven’t been sick (garlic is known for it’s super power of keeping you healthy!). I also make a lot of vegan pizza (I use vegan cheese - something you have to experiment with until you find one that you like, and vegan pepperonis). My main fruits and veggies are: broccoli(garlic), (raw) carrots, green beans(garlic), and corn(garlic) when it’s in season, bananas, apples, clementines (when in season), strawberries (when in season), pineapples (when they’re pre-cut because I’m lazy). I also eat dry cereals (cereal without milk), bagels, and rice/pasta. Oh and I recently decided to like couscous!
For me, my diet is a work in progress. I found that once I threw garlic on everything the whole world became delicious and I was much more willing to jump outside my comfort box if it was something I could put garlic one haha (it should be noted I did not like garlic 2 years ago).
Does that help? Any more questions? Anything specific? :)
yet another post saved to my drafts because I don’t feel comfortable enough posting things on here. yippee.
